The Eid- Ul- Fitr Celebration at Al-Iman School marking the end of the Holy Month of Ramadhan.
On Monday November 7, 2005, Al-Iman School held a school celebration for the holiday of Eid Ul Fitr that was celebrated on Thursday and Friday. Pre-K through Grade 12 had a day of enjoyment with amusing games. They were allowed to dress in their best Islamic attire. Money was raised for the school by the School Spirit Club which is organized by Sr. Merziya and the class of Grade 12. The 11th and 12th Grades also played a main role in raising money. They sold food, stationary, toys, candies, jewelry, and other things to raise money. Alhamduillah, their hard work paid off literally.
The Elementary students had various games in the assembly area which they enjoyed tremendously. The 5th Grade teacher, Sister Parveen, dressed up as a clown and entertained the students. Sr. Shama, Sr. Syeda and Sr. Mubeena set a table for face painting which was so much fun that they seemed to be buried in the sea of children with painted faces. Later on after prayers, the Elementary students went to the gym and watched a movie while the Junior High and High School students were engaged in a Quran Competition organized by the Quran teachers, Sr. Loubna and Br. Waziri.
The Quranic Competition was amazing: First, three Surahs from the Holy Quran were to be recited with proper pronunciation and compliancy with the rules. Second, the Surahs recited, included: Surah Al-Baqara- Ayats # 261-275, Sura Al-Imran- Ayats # 34-50, and Sura Al-Asra- Ayats # 1-15. Third, the three Judges were Sr. Suraiya, Sr. Fehmida, and Sr. Rubina who concentrated on particularly two things: correct pronunciation and correct rules being applied while they recited. Finally, Br. Omer, from Grade 9 won first place in the competition, while Br. Mohammad Rizvi from Grade 10 won second place, and Br. Ibrahim, from Grade 9 won third place.
The Eid Celebration was a great success. The students showed their bright faces and enjoyed a whole day of fun. Inshallah, there will be many other celebrations that will be the same in the spirit of good fun while learning about Islam and our Scholastic responsibilities in an academic setting.
