It is that time of the year when students at Al-Iman School prepare for the annual Model United Nations competition. It is different this year though, because the air is charged with the zeal to win, as the students voluntarily participate in preparatory after-school workshops, led by Br. Sayyed. The students who participate in the Model United Nations have to go through a gruelling series of tests judging their behavior, willingness, contribution and most importantly their commitment.
This year 22 students have been chosen to participate in the Model United Nations, out of which fourteen students will be representing Guatemala and eight students will be representing Oman. The advisor in charge of the students for the country of Guatemala will be Br. Hurmat WazirAli, and the student leaders will be Shazib Syed for the boys and Romena Ashique for the girls. The advisor in charge of the students for the country of Oman will be Br. Sayyed, and the student leaders will be Syed Mohammed Razvi for the brothers and Sr. Mehru Jilani for the sisters. These young diplomats will be responsible to tackle important global issues such as, Global Warming; the Right to Development; Freshwater Resources; Social Responsibility of the Private Sector; the Global AIDS crisis; Eradication of Illicit Drug Crops and Alternative Development; Sustainable Tourism; Global Epidemic Outbreak Alert Response; Human Resources for Health; Megacities and the Environment; Foreign Direct Investment; Children in Armed Conflict; and Maternal Health.
In their bid to win, students are aiming for three main prizes which include a Team Prize (which is offered based on how the team responds to the issues, its dress code, and its behavior); the second prize is the Position Paper; and the third prize is the Individual Performance within a Committee. Shazib Syed, who is also participating in the Model UN this year has previously aced Individual Performance category and is a Committee prize winner.
Br. Sayyed the social studies teacher at Al-Iman School and one of the head teachers of the Model United Nations Students says, "It's an honor to be involved in the Model United Nations for Al-Iman School in the tradition of Imam Ali (a.s.), in the level of diplomacy displayed by him." |

Assalamun alaiykum.
Before inking few lines of my personal words concerning the subject, I would like you all to be aware that the writer is not a teacher nor a scholar. In our ninteen years of translation, publishing and distributing religious Islamic books to differnt educational institutes including university and public libraries in Sweden. I remember in 1988 when the late Imam Sayed Khoei suggested me to go into the above said projects. Thanks merciful Lord and the late Imam, to-day we have 23 publications. This year we were also blessed to mail 3000 copies of Al Sahifat al Kamilat al Sajjadiyyah English version and 2000 copies of The Voice of Human Justice English translation by Gerges Jordac to 3000 global libraies as birthday gift of Imam Ali (a.s) This includes 1000 libraries in the USA and the presidental libraries.
The duties of the belivers of our noble Imam Ali (a.s) is to be educated, respectful and trustworthy in all their duties. The message of our holy Prophet (s.a.w) says he is the city of knowledge and Ali (a.s) is its gate. These two mercy pens were idle for the centuries, but to-day they are awaken by the new werstern scholars and their pens. As said by the Holy Imam Ali (a.s) " Being ignorant of excellence is tantamount to be dead. " The Sayings and Wisdom of Imam Ali (a.s) pg 105 by Zahra Publication ISBN 0 9460 799 19 refers.
Before ending the message, our humble prayers in the House of Merciful Lord are, May He bless our new coming teachers/scholars the gift of honor, respect and lighted pens. Amin. May He also bless all those who have done their neddful Amin.
