Al-Khoei Foundation: US Representative of Ayatollah Sistani Calls Attacks on Holy Shrines an 'Attack on Human Civilization'

Imam Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation with profound grief and outrage expresses its indignation and disgust at the bomb blast that damaged the Holy Shrine in Samarra, Iraq and took the lives of an unknown number of innocent worshippers. Read more.

A statement released early morning on Feb 22, 2006 said, “We are saddened and angered over the attack and urge Muslims worldwide to come out openly and peacefully to condemn this act of terrorism.”

“It is not merely an attack on a Shiite shrine, but an attack on human civilization and an attempt at creating disunity among Iraqis. No matter how calm and quiet we may seem, the fact is that this action has left a deep wound in our hearts and minds.” said Sheikh Fadhel Al-Sahlani the US Representative of Ayatollah Sistani and the director of the Foundation.

Beneath the golden dome that was destroyed are four graves:of Imam Ali al-Naqi (10th Imam) and his son, Imam Hasan al-Askari (11th Imam) – both, direct descendents of Prophet Mohammad – Hakimah Khatoon, the sister of Imam Ali al-Naqi and Nargis Khatoon, the mother of Imam al-Mahdi (12th Imam)

“Bombing of this religious site in the holy month of Moharram is very symbolic. It embodies the intense hatred these terrorists and their allies harbor for the Muslims of Shiite persuasion and other faiths in their hearts. It has become more important now for the larger Muslim Ummah and all the civilized people of the world to condemn and disassociate itself with such barbaric attacks and join us in a campaign to send a clear message to this extremist element”, said Syed Meesam Razvi, the United Nations Representative of the Foundation.

Al-Khoei Foundation expresses its condolences to Imam Al-Mahdi, the Leader of our time, and families of the victims of the wanton carnage in Samarra and prays for the speedy recovery of the injured victims of the senseless, cowardly act of the anti-human and anti-Islamic inimical forces.

Al-Khoei Benevolent Foundation, established by Grand Ayatollah Al-Khoei (RA) in 1989, is the largest Shi’a Muslim religious-charitable organization. The Foundation has more than 15 branches all across the world, where it is responsible for the maintenance of Schools, Colleges, Universities and Islamic Centers. The Foundation is the only Shi’a Muslim organization that enjoys a General Consultative Status with United Nations.

Comment: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 14:33:14 - It is a terrible act of terrorism that was committed against the shrine of Imam Ali Naqi(a.s.) and Imam Hasan Askari(a.s.) by the followers of Muawiya( laeen ibne laeen). May they burn in the lowest and filthiest parts of hell with their leader.

Our Imams have always beared the torture of these non-humans, whether it is during their time on earth or after their martyrdoms. That is why the will of Allah is their will and their will is the will of Allah!

Comment: Sun, 26 Feb 2006 20:19:32 - I strongly condemn the yazidi attack on the holy shrines of our 10th and 11th IMAMS. I don't understand why did they do such a coward act? Any pure and true muslim cannot harm any kind of holy shrines or mosques. So it means that those who did such a terrible attack, are not muslims but the terrorists, and they are more dangerous ones because they not only want to destroy the holy places but also want to cause conflict between shia and sunni.
I cursed them with the core of my heart that INSHAHALLAH very soon they will get what they

Subject: Any condemnation must reflect the example of the Ahlul Bait(AS)
Comment: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 20:28:25 - As-Salaamu Alaikum brother,
It is easy to be angry, its what shaitan(may the curse of Allah be upon him) uses to divide Muslims and other brothers and sister in humanity. In this Century we have seen our religion being accused of hate to fundamentalism to extremism to terrorism. Perhaps what is ironic about these features is the simple fact that no member of the Ahlul Bait(AS) ever encouraged any act of hate, fundamentalism, extremism or terrorism. While we are to hate those Allah hates, naturally, the fact is, we are not a religion of haters, extremists, or terrorists. These people who call themselves "Muslims" or if it were non-Muslim stirring up the Muslim population, as has become a major feature in the Second Crusade, are neither Muslims nor brothers and sisters in humanity. However, if we suggest slaying them just for the mere reason that we have passed judgment on them; then we will become like them because we may end up taking the lives of innocents. Imam Khomeini(RA) spoke many times about the need for unity among the Muslims, even the Sunni brothers and sisters, he spoke about the 1 Billion plus Muslims as one Ummah or community, he encourage dialogue and knowledge to be shared about us, the Shias, so that our brothers in faith can understand us and not consider us the "enemy" thus destroying our way of life, our Holy places or our children, women and elderly defenseless brothers and sisters who are the victims in Iraq today. Suggesting the deaths to Sunnis is not the answer but only fuelling shaitan and his crusade. Instead we need to reach out to the Sunni leadership to bring those to justice who have committed this act against humanity, indeed the very heart of islam because in Holy Quran Allah was clear that love of the Prophet and his Ahlul Bait (AS) is compulsory and he asked nothing of us but their love, devotion and treat them as examples for us. Our Sunni brothers and sisters must understand that this will anger us naturally but in Iraq we have tried very hard not to lead the country into Civil War. Instead we have been very open and objective which is not the case towards Shias in places as Pakistan and other parts of the World where, in the words of Imam Chirri of Lebanon,"Shias are under attack." WE must walk the path of the Ahlul Bait(AS) and while condemning these horrible acts, also simultaneously extend our compassion as Shia Muslims in keeping our religion as one and safe from those who wish to do us harm using whatever opportunity to divide us and cause conflict between us. May Allah guide those who are on the wrong path and return them to the path of the Ahlul Bait(AS).

Subject: Any condemnation from Sunnis?
Comment: Thu, 23 Feb 2006 12:17:17 - Is it our right to retaliate and kill those who may be responsible for the attacks on Shias? It is very important for Sunni (should I call them brothers?) to declare their alliance. Yes, I agree that they are not Sunnis who attack us, they are Wahabis, but at the same time, have we ever heard of any serious condenmation from Sunnis about that? No, Never. If they are not helping Wahabis in carrying out those attacks and they are not with them, they are definitely not against their attrocities and offcourse they are not even sympathatic towards Shias. What does this behavior tell us? I agree with my brothers who wrote their comments on the other page of this site saying that We are not an Ummah anymore and that it is really important for us to be acknowledged as a separate nation, unless Sunnis want us togather. Now is the time to ask Sunnis to decide who they are with? They can not stay neutral anymore because donig nothing means helping them and helping them means they are against us. Yes, I agree that it is time for unity but it is more important for us shias to be united against our enemies. If we are united, and we know our goal, then we dont really need any more alliances. Nations would come themselves to us for our support and not the other way round. We shias are the most peaceful nation of the world and history proves it. We have never ever attacked any other nation or religion or sect and it is our duty, especially for us living in the west, to tell these historic fact to others, use our majalis in the most positive way, tell the public in general who we are and how we are different from the so-called mainstream. Tell the people that we are under attack and we always are. We dont want wars and we are never involved in wars except for self defence. It is our duty to allienate our enemies by minimizing their support in the masses. Create an environment where nobody can call us Kaafir and Waajib-ul-Qatl and nobody can recruit the illiterate and poor sunnis to brain wash them against us.
These incidents are eye openers and we have this responsibility to be united and struggle for our right to live and live
