A suicide bomber killed at least 58 people today when he blew up a car between the holy shrines of Imam Hussain AS and Hadhrat Abbas AS, in Karbala. Scores more people were hurt in the attack that apparently targeted worshippers heading to evening prayers.
The attack, which was condemned by the Al-Khoei Foundation and other Muslim organizations, is a continuation of violence that has long marred the post-Saddam Iraq and has claimed the lives of thousands of Muslims, particularly that of Shiite persuasion.
Meanwhile, twenty-seven bodies were found in different parts of Baquba yesterday. Police said 15 bodies, handcuffed and with gunshot wounds to the head, were discovered in a field. Another 12 were found in other parts of the city.
The victims were among 116 killed across the country in a new day of carnage yesterday.
