Members of special anti-terrorist squad stand alert at a check post during Shiite Muslims' procession in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006. At least 22 people were killed and dozens injured, officials said. |

KOHAT, Pakistan - A suspected suicide bombing on a peaceful Ashura procession in Pakistan killed at least 23 people and wounded dozens. The attack targeted a procession in the town of Hangu in North West Frontier Province to mark Ashura, the holiest day for Shi'ites. Officials reported several blasts.
A leader of the Shi'ite procession, Maulana Khurshid Anwar, said a bomb exploded near a stage where he was about to address Shi'ite mourners.
Al-Khoei Foundation, a leading Shiite Muslim organization has released a statement stating, "This is the same ideology that was behind the attack on Ashura procession in New York and that has been the driving force behind the genocide of Shia Muslims, in Iraq, Pakistan, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the world. There is more on part of the government of Pakistan that needs to be done to prevent any further atrocities and we will be conveying this message to them through their embassies in New York and Washington, DC"
On Feb 5, 2005 an attempt, by some members of Al Qaeda, to attack the annual Ashura procession in New York was thwarted after New York Police Department intervened on the scene. Click here for more details .
Last month the representatives of Al-Khoei Foundation met the Prime Minister of Pakistan who admitted that there are "... pockets of some dangerous elements fermenting the culture of hate and bigotry".
NWFP police chief Riffat Pasha said the bombing was a suicide attack and troops were sent to help restore order. Security forces put up barricades on roads leading to Hangu after announcing an around-the-clock curfew in the town.
"We have sent armored personnel carriers there, and the Frontier Constabulary is also there," Pasha told Reuters. "The situation is pretty much under control."
Interior Minister Aftab Ahmed Khan Sherpao said there had been three blasts and it could have been a suicide attack or caused by time bombs.
Adbul Majeed Marwat, a senior police officer in Hangu, said hospital sources had put the toll from the bombing at 22. Another senior police officer, who did not want to be named, said 23 had died.

Comment: Sun, 17 Dec 2006 03:45:07 - Revered Sir,
I have for the first time visited this site and found that Hussani People are not just like me, but there are people who are strongly working for the cause. In my opinion, if anybody (SHIA People) are not helping in any manner, but he should give moral support to the things like u do. HUSSANIAT will persist till the end of the world (dooms day) as Allah and the Prophet (SAWW) and his progeny are its protectors.
As far as I am concerned we cannot sabottage "ZULM" as we are "MUZLOOM" since more than 1400 years.
We cannot do any harm socalled "JAHADIES". But they will perish for there deeds in this world and the world hereafter.
We have to adopt the SABR against ZULM, and one day will come that our people will rule the whole world. We have to get prepared for that. Are We? It is not a question I am asking to anybody, it is a question for myself.
But there are people in this world who are just awaiting for somebody's call. AND WE SHOULD TRY AND GET PREPARED FOR THAT. Then we will be free forever.

Comment: Sun, 12 Feb 2006 22:55:58 - Before getting into the debate of what should we do or what is expected from us, shias. It is important to know what is 'Zulm'. I have been told repeatedly that [as shias] we should be 'Saabir' against the 'Zulm' we are facing in everyday life. It is very important to know what is Zulm? Zulm is the opposite of 'Adl'. 'Adl' means putting the right thing at right place. So, the 'Zulm' that Yazid did on Imam Husain (AS) was to ask for 'Baiat'. If he kept quite against this 'Zulm', then there may not be any Karbala or the sufferings that Imam and his family and companions had to go through. What Imam did was to stand against the 'Zulm' and faced the consequences; he told the followers that we should do 'Sabr' in hardships when we stand for OUR right and for what IS right. The point to be noted here is that He did not do 'Sabr' against 'Zulm', he did 'Sabr' against the hardships in his mission and because of his ultimate 'Sabr', he is successful.
Similarly, if someone argues that we should do 'Sabr' against the Zulm we are facing from the hands of either those (so-called) jihaadis or Al-Qaida or any other faction or nation, it is similar to Imam Husain staying quite for Yazid's demand of 'Baiat'. Yes, we should NOT accept these atrocities against Shias and we should reply with all the possible resources in hand. I agree on the points Yadullah Naqvi put together in order to strengthen ourselves. I don't see any sense in telling the world that no matter what you do we'll not attack back. I'll rather give a strong response back and destroy the attackers completely. It is not our destiny to be persecuted. it is, however, our responsibility to defend ourselves against all kinds of

We all have to fight with these Yazids, not the way They do, but the way to prove that we are not like Them. We should have our own media to preach Hussaini mission and condemn

Comment: Fri, 10 Feb 2006 13:18:57 - I agree with Yadullah. It is not our destiny to suffer, get persecuted or killed. Life is a gift of Allah and we must honor this gift. US invasion of Afghanistan and Iraq rescued Shias from the oppressors - but Shias didn't do it themselves. While some of us can hide behind the claims of "civility" but the fact is that not doing anything against evil forces determined to annihilate you is not patience. It is cowardly ignorance and an acknowledgement of our own weakness. I want every Molana and Ayatullah to be accountable for every Shia life - they need to develop awareness that focuses on taking every just and legal action to protect our lives. Taqaya is not the answer. The answer is a collective, united, clear, unbiased, non-arrogant, powerful global response. I would suggest the radical idea of sending a team of shias to countries that face terrorism on regular basis to learn counter terrorism and to protect our people. Once and for all - our lives matter. Shias may have been persecuted in the last 14 centuries - but it is not going to happen for the next 14 centuries, 14 years or 14 months. It is time to put an end to

Comment: Fri, 10 Feb 2006 12:30:28 - Patience is a virtue and it is the legacy of our Imams. But that doesn't imply that we shouldn't take the necessary actions to protect our people. Every life matters. Our actions should include 1) creating a global fund to invest in the security of our worship places 2) an information sharing program to assist law enforcement agencies fighting terrorism including Homeland Security & Interpol 3) a program to gain intelligence information on the activites of our enemies 4) preparing a preemptive program to counter their attacks - which should always follow local laws 5) creating a fund to assist the victims 6) developing a global network of journalists that can effectively communicate our casue and expose the terrorists 7) create powerful marketing/PR to effectively differentiate the Islam of Ahle Bat with other forms of Islam including advertising 8) preparing common and standardized practices for protecting oursleves and sharing these with all imam baras all over the world 9) create a fund to sponsor a documentary addressing atrocities against shias.
It is a pity that Shias have lost more lives to terrorism than any other nation - yet Shias have been unable to gain sympathy at a global level. Let us not blame this on hegemonic powers. It is our own lack of leadership. I need answers why our global Shia leadership has been unable to protect our lives? They have been more than ineffective to proactively protect our interests. Let us stop reinforcing the masochistic social psychology and make oursleves accountable for every single shia life. Let us put khums money to work fo rour

Comment: Fri, 10 Feb 2006 03:36:18 - Salam Alikum,
Ina Lil Lahi Wa Ina Ila-e-Rajioon..
Once again, Hussainat Won..People who were martyred in today's blast were no ordinary people but instead they are the Shohada-e-Karbala.Now everytime, we recite Ziara-e-Sair-e-Shohada-e- Karbala, so we will be praising them as well.
The funny thing is that we Shias are very peaceful people and when it come's to patience, so I bet that noboday is as patient as us in the world. The world infact is very surprised that, regarldless, how many of them you kill, they wont attack back, unless a religios decree is given by an Ayatollah. Now you must be thinking that why I said funny in the begining; well i said funny because the only weapon we have is the Mouning of Imam Hussain(AS).Mourning of Imam Hussain(AS) is the not the mourning of Imam Hussain but instead in that mouning we mourn all the oppressed people of the world and stand up against the oppressor, under the banner of the Imam Hussain(AS). Imam Hussain is the voice of justice & humanity for everyone.Hussain(AS) showed, the path of victory by showing us to be defiant in the face of the oppressor.
The Momineen, martyred heniously were the true Diciples of Imam Hussain(AS). There sacrifice won't go into the drainage but inshallah, there blood will bring a revolution, not only in Pakistan but everywhere in the world, where humanity is subjected to oppression.
At last, I would also like to point out that this henious act could not be carried out by our Sunni Brethrens.Infact this act is not carried out by anyone who call's himself a Muslim, because a Muslim never kills a Muslim. This attack has been certainly carried out by no other than the hegemonic powers(WE ARE KNOW WHO THEY ARE)
